Our ear infection treatments and services

Ear infections are most common in babies and young children, but adults can also develop them. Although not contagious, these infections should be treated quickly.

Swimmer's ear

Swimmer’s ear is different than the typical ear infection. Swimmer’s ear is an infection in the outer ear, which is caused by bacteria that grow when ears are wet. If you have a child that loves to swim, before you let him or her make a splash in the pool, be sure you’re doing everything you can to prevent this infection.

Let’s start off by diving into exactly what swimmer’s ear is and a few of the symptoms. Swimmer’s ear is an inflammation that affects the ear canal. It is very painful and appears red and swollen. This inflammation is commonly referred to as “swimmer’s ear” because it is usually caused by water entering the ear canal. However, sand and dirt can also cause a flare up.

Symptoms of swimmer’s ear include:

  • Hearing loss
  • Itching inside the ear
  • Pain when the ear is touched
  • Pain while chewing
  • Redness and swelling
  • Sensation of fullness in the ear
